Frequently Asked Questions
Friday of week one is the last day to add a course and Friday of week 2 of the semester is the last day that a student can drop a course and not receive a "W". Accelerated CIS/BUS/BTM/NCM/IT students have until Saturday of the first week of classes (in that session) to change their schedule.
The last day to withdraw from a class and to receive a "W" is the Friday of the eleventh week of the semester for day and evening students. For the accelerated CIS/BUS/BTM/NCM/IT programs, the last day to withdraw from a class and receive a "W" is anytime prior to the final exam/last class session. See your Program Assistant to get withdrawal paperwork.
Your academic advisor is your program Dean, Associate Dean, or Chair for continuing and new students. Additionally, new students may have a faculty advisor assigned in one of their courses. If a faculty advisor is assigned, they will make an announcement in class.
Your Program Assistant will help you with academic administrative issues. Examples include; assistance with course scheduling (current scheduling, future planning, and changes to your schedule), course withdrawals, attendance issues, and proficiency exam applications.
See your Program Assistant to pick up a proficiency examination application. Graduating Seniors must have completed all proficiency exams before their final semester.
You first talk to the professor of the course to discuss a grade change/appeal. If you do not feel that you and the professor have resolved the appeal, then you make an appointment to see the Dean or Associate Dean of your program.
Graduation applications are online, located on the Graduating Student Information link on the DeVry Columbus web page.
Schedules for the next semester are available through OSS or through the Schedules link in the My Tools area of the web site. They are generally available near the end of week eleven.
See the Transfer Credit Evaluator in the Registrar's Office, located in the lower level.
If you are put on the 5-day suspension list, you must pick up a form from your Program Assistant and complete an appeal of your suspension to stay enrolled. If you do not appeal, you will be dismissed from all classes, and this will effect your housing and financial aid status.
To be in good academic standing, a student must maintain a CGPA of a 2.00 or higher. In addition, if a student's CGPA at the end of the first completed term of attendance is below a 1.00, the student is dismissed. If at the end of an academic term the CGPA is below a 2.00, the student is placed on academic probation. If the student has two consecutive terms that result in any combination of a Term Grade Point Average (TGPA) below 2.00, the student is placed on academic probation. If at the end of a student's probationary semester the TGPA is below a 2.00, the student is dismissed. For further guidelines on standards of academic progress, please consult the DeVry Student Handbook.
The issue should be discussed with the professor on a one on one basis first. If this discussion does not resolve the issue, then students should make an appointment to see the Dean or Associate Dean of his or her program.
